Statement of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

The Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Tupytskyi states that from trustful sources with reference to the Office of the President of Ukraine he got to know that in the evening, 13 January, after his return to Kyiv with his family a public “show” is planned to be held staging the handing over of a suspicion to him at the airport premises with participation of specific mass media and civic activists.

Given this, the Court Chairman states that this is another attempt to discredit him as a judge and the Chairman Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

According to him, the aim is to destabilise and block the Court’s activities on consideration of publicly important cases, in particular the case on the land market.

Furthermore, the Court Chairman stresses, that pursuant to the requirements of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine a suspicion has not been handed over to him. Oleksandr Tupytskyi noted that the procedure of handing over a notification of suspicion is to be implemented exclusively in the frame of proper legal procedure.
