ccu1THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT OF UKRAINE is the sole body of constitutional jurisdiction in Ukraine. The Law of Ukraine “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine” adopted on October 16, 1996 sets forth that the task of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is to guarantee the supremacy of the Constitution of Ukraine as the Fundamental Law of the State throughout the territory of Ukraine.

The Court held its first session on October 22, 1996 and adopted its first decision on May 13, 1997.

The organisation, authority and arrangement of activities of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine are set forth by the Constitution of Ukraine, the Law “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine” and the Rules of Procedure of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine consists of eighteen judges. President of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Congress of Judges of Ukraine each appoint six judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine for a nine-year term.

The Court is headed by the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine who is elected for a single three-year term from among judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The organisational, scientific and expert, informational and reference support for the activity of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is performed by the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The printed body of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is "The Bulletin of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine".

 Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin met with the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Mustafa Al-Nawaiseh 26.01.2016
On January 25, 2016 Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin met with the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Mustafa Al-Nawaiseh. The meeting was attended by the Cultural Affairs Attache of the of Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the Russian Federation (Department in Ukraine) Khail Al-Rukibad, Head of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yaroslav Vasylkevych, staff of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine welcomed guests and expressed his pleasure of the possibility of holding a meeting. He spoke about the structure, functions and powers of the Court and informed guests that this year the Constitutional Court of Ukraine celebrates its 20-th anniversary.
 Presidents of the Constitutional Courts of Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Latvia and Lithuania met with the President of Ukraine 22.12.2015
On December 18, 2015 Presidents of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine - Yurii Baulin, Georgia - Giorgi Papuashvili, Lithuania - Dainius Zalimas, Latvia - Aldis Lavins and Moldova - Alexandru Tanase met with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. Participants discussed the reform of the judiciary and the constitutional amendments. "The main task of the reform of the judiciary is to ensure the rule of law and strengthening the independent court", stressed the President of Ukraine. The President of Ukraine underlined that Ukraine is interested in the development of a long-term, strategic cooperation, including in the area of constitutional law, with countries which representatives attended the meeting. "Your experience and support are essential for us. Solid position of political authorities of all Baltic States is a factor that ensures unity of the EU and solidarity with Ukraine ", added Petro Poroshenko...
 The International Scientific and Practical Conference on Introduction of Constitutional Complaint in Ukraine held in Kyiv 18.12.2015
On December 18, 2015 the international scientific and practical conference on introduction of constitutional complaint in Ukraine was held in Kyiv. The event was organised in the framework of the cooperation of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine and on the occasion of the All-Ukrainian Law Week. The conference was dedicated to the introduction of the institute of the constitutional complaint in Ukraine, study of the experience of foreign colleagues, in particular the amendments to the Constitution and relevant legislation, improvement of the structure of the court system, possible increase of caseload in view of introduction of the constitutional complaint, other problematic issues faced by courts in their activities in light of introduction of constitutional complaint, etc...
 Meeting of the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions 17.12.2015
On December 17, 2015 a meeting of the Presidents of the Сonstitutional Сourts of Ukraine, Georgia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Moldova - members of the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions took place at the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. This October in Vilnius the chairpersons of the Constitutional Courts of Ukraine, Georgia, Lithuania, and Moldova signed a Declaration on the Establishment of the above Association. According to the Declaration, member countries recognise the need to strengthen the independence of constitutional courts and equivalent institutions as an essential factor in guaranteeing democracy, rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution, share the common goal of promoting the exchange of information regarding the best legal practices in the field of constitutional law, etc...

On December 9-12, 2015 Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin and judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhii Vdovichenko participated in the tripartite seminar and the annual conference of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia "Admissibility of restrictions of fundamental rights in democratic state", held in Riga (Republic of Latvia). On October 17-25, 2015 upon the invitation of the President of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Republic of Poland Mr Andrzej Rzeplinski, a delegation of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine was on a study visit to the Constitutional Tribunal of the Republic of Poland. During the visit the Ukrainian delegation met with the President of the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland, leadership and staff of various structural units of its Bureau.

On October 16-18, 2015 judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk and Ihor Slidenko took part in the XVIIth International Congress on European and Comparative Constitutional Law "Constitutional Courts and Ordinary Courts: Cooperation or Conflict?", held in Regensburg, Germany. The event was organised by Professor Rainer Arnold of the University of Regensburg, Professor of the University of Regensburg, President of the Association of Civil Procedural Law Teachers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland Herbert Roth with the assistance of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation. The purpose of the congress was to discuss the important theoretical and practical aspects of interaction between constitutional courts and courts of general jurisdiction.
