ccu1THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT OF UKRAINE is the sole body of constitutional jurisdiction in Ukraine. The Law of Ukraine “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine” adopted on October 16, 1996 sets forth that the task of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is to guarantee the supremacy of the Constitution of Ukraine as the Fundamental Law of the State throughout the territory of Ukraine.

The Court held its first session on October 22, 1996 and adopted its first decision on May 13, 1997.

The organisation, authority and arrangement of activities of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine are set forth by the Constitution of Ukraine, the Law “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine” and the Rules of Procedure of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine consists of eighteen judges. President of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Congress of Judges of Ukraine each appoint six judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine for a nine-year term.

The Court is headed by the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine who is elected for a single three-year term from among judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The organisational, scientific and expert, informational and reference support for the activity of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is performed by the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The printed body of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is "The Bulletin of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine".

 Delegation of Polish advocates visited the Constitutional Court of Ukraine 06.07.2015
On July 2, 2015 in the frames of the cooperation project of the Council of Advocates of Kyiv and the The Polish Bar Council ф delegation of Polish advocates consisting of Marius Mazepus, Piotr Osiewacz, Natalia Szalamacha, Jaroslaw Sczczepaniak and Project Coordinator from the Ukrainian side Natalia Savinova visited the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. The delegation made a tour around the Court premises, including library, archives, press center, souvenirs exhibition and the session hall and got familiarised with the powers of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, specificities of the constitutional proceedings, forms of appeal to the Court, procedure of appointment of judges etc. During the stay at the Court, a meeting with Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Petro Stetsiuk and Viktor Shyshkin took place.
 International Scientific and Practical Conference "The Constitution and Electoral Process in Ukraine" was held on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine 03.07.2015
On June 25, 2015 the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, The Krzysztof Skubiszewski Foundation (Republic of Poland) and the Salkom Law Firm held an International Scientific and Practical Conference "The Constitution and Electoral Process in Ukraine" on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine.  Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine took part in the 5th annual Black Sea Regional Conference 03.07.2015
On June 27-28, 2015 judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Tupytskyi took part in the 5th annual Black Sea Regional Conference on the "Liberty and Security: Increasing the Effectiveness of the Constitutional Complaint" held in Batumi. Georgia. The forum was attended by heads and judges of the bodies of constitutional jurisdiction of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Moldova, Turkey, Croatia, judges of the European Court of Human Rights, experts of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), scholars, representatives of governmental and judicial authorities of Georgia. During the conference, judge Tupytskyi delivered a presentation on: "The Constitutional Right for Liberty and Personal Inviolability and the Role of the Constitutional Court in its Provision in Ukraine".

On May 15, 2015 Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Mykola Melnyk, Serhii Sas, Ihor Slidenko, Petro Stetsiuk, Stanislav Shevchuk, Viktor Shyshkin took part as referees in the II All-Ukrainian student competition on constitutional justice organised by the Law Faculty of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in co-operation with the Centre for constitutional initiatives and supported by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and International Renaissance Foundation. The purpose of All-Ukrainian student competition on constitutional justice is to enhance students' interest to study the constitutional law, research the jurisprudence of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and raising awareness of the basic institutions of the constitutional law, the special role of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in the legal system of Ukraine, and strengthening youth' aspiration to legal values of a democratic society...
 Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine held a professional meeting with the German lawyers on the constitutional judicial practice 27.05.2015
On May 3 - 7, 2015 judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Ihor Slidenko, Petro Stetsiuk and Viktor Shyshkin held a professional meeting with the German lawyers on the jurisprudence of the constitutional courts of both countries. The visit was organised by the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) which regularly facilitates Ukrainian-German meetings on the constitutional and legal issues and enables fruitful exchange of the scientific and methodological experience, in cooperation with the German Federal Constitutional Court and Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law.

On May 2-9, 2015 upon the invitation of the Executive Director of the "Law & Economics Center" at George Mason University, Professor of Law Henry N. Butler, Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on International Relations Stanislav Shevchuk took part in the judicial education program "Economics Institute for Judges", held in Washington DC, USA. The program was aimed at studying certain aspects of economic analysis when making judgments and application and interpretation of the norms of law.
